Despite uncertain weather, about a hundred people brought their smiles and warm clothing to the Maison des arts in Drummondville, unrolling their mats for an outdoor yoga session. “We’ll warm up quickly, it’s going to be an active session,” assured Marie-Pierre Simoneau, executive director of the Maison des arts. She explains how the event got started: “I do yoga, and when I started at the Maison des arts, I found the area inspiring. I had tried a few sessions like this and I thought it would be great to do them here in Drummondville, in an environment packed with culture.” The participants moved through the poses under the zen instruction of Drummondville Yoga Teacher Perrine Marais.
The session’s music was provided by Montreal singer Shyre accompanied by a violinist, as well as lively drumming performances from Studio Mouvance. Some of the teachers from Studio Pur Yoga demonstrated the session on slightly raised platforms along with those on stage so that participants who couldn’t see the stage could still follow along, while Studio Inspiration introduced aerial yoga to interested participants. “I’m happy people want to be a part of this madness!” jokes Marie-Pierre Simoneau. Although it’s the first outdoor yoga event of its size in Drummondville, it may just be the first of many such adventures, with possible repeats at the Maison des arts.
